I Was There: Melbourne, Australia
Billy Elliot The Musical at Her Majesty's Theatre
By the Editor/eltonjohn.com

The Australian production of Billy Elliot the Musical has transferred from Sydney to Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne. The show opened there on New Year's Eve, and already reviews and media coverage have been highly enthusiastic and complimentary of this British musical for which Elton wrote the music.
Here are some of the critics' comments:

"The hit musical Billy Elliot, which opened in Melbourne on New Year's Eve with much fanfare, has certainly lived up to all that it promised... Billy Elliot is a wonderfully entertaining musical that should not be missed."

Danny Gocs, The Australian Jewish News

"A musical in a class of its own that is definitely not to be missed.
[Billy Elliot the Musical] is beautiful to watch but not because of stunning sets, special effects or even glamorous costumes; in fact, it is even anti-glamour in parts. The impact comes from the strength of the story and a perfect harmony of elements, as the dance and music are eloquently entwined with the narrative."

Catherine Lambert, Sunday Herald Sun

"Billy Elliot the Musical is a feast of dance and song, technical wizardry and inspired stagecraft that will make you laugh and cry. The production is, like Billy's story itself, a triumph of creative spirit."

Cameron Woodhead, The Age
